Building bridges: Lync and traditional telephony

Overcoming the gap between telephony and Microsoft Lync Challenge: Connecting the MS Lync environment to / from the traditional telephony environment within an organization. Microsoft Lync provides instant messaging (IM), audio and video calls, online meetings, availability (presence) information, and sharing capabilities all from one, easy-to-use program. The use of Microsoft Lync often starts as a test within the IT department with the use of instant messaging and presence information. At the same time, the traditional telephony environment is also being in use. This creates two environments in which the operator switches from one to the other and accessibility is a problem rather than a given fact. An operator will face the necessity to work within at least two environments but by using the Enterprise Voice solution, the operator can work with 1 tool, connecting the existing communication platforms as mentioned. Connecsy Enterprise is developed to simultaneously support multiple communication environments, whereby it is possible to show the status of the users in these environments. Of course, all calls must also be able to be treated in a generic way. th Connecting SpeechConnecsy Enterprise supports different ways to make a voice connection with a communication environment. The most flexible way to unlock almost all communication environments is the use of SIP Trunks. Connecting Presence To collect presence information different connectors can be applied. For example, Exchange can be used to retrieve calendar information, CSTA to obtain information from a Unify system, TAPI to extract information from an Avaya IP Office and the Unified Communications manages API to retrieve this information from Lync. In addition, a regular database link can be used for multiple purposes. For example retrieve information from a database containing presence information based on an access controls database. Links can also be created with the database in which sick leave is registered. The connector designed by Pridis enables optimum integration into the customer environment possible.
